Hayy Open Space is happy to announce that it will be opening again on October 15th, with the exhibition titled “Hanging in Time”, as well as side events such as talks, performance and workshop that will take place in the space, garden and online.
The exhibition brings together artists who are interested in the physical, psychological and political layers of space. The privacy of the place and the reality of an outside world that we find it difficult to be involved in allow us to rethink the functional and symbolic meanings of the space. The artists benefit from introspection and different dialogue opportunities in “Hanging in Time”, which explores the effects of spatial experience on the process of belonging and alienation in private and public spaces, in the traces of the time we live in. The works question the possibilities of establishing a subjective relationship and way of communication in personal spaces with the public space of the city, depending on the encounters between inside and outside while living an indefinite period of time.
Curated by Ezgi Yakın, the exhibition will include the works with different mediums such as video performance, ceramics, installation, painting, sound and collage by artists Cevdet Erek, Şeyma Güzelaydın, Kalender Meşrep (Tuğçe Akay & Ayşegül Doğan), Sevil Tunaboylu, Özge Yağcı and Nalan Yırtmaç. Cevdet Erek, who we know with his sound installations and performances, is concerned with the physical location of Hayy Open Space and its connection with the environment, while thinking about sound in space and time. Şeyma Güzelaydın reconstructs the way that recurring solid and strong objects are associated with each other, with existential concern. The Kalender Meşrep group turns the personal dialogue established between two houses with the help of a rope into a performance witnessed by the neighborhood. Sevil Tunaboylu, who interprets the physical parts of the spaces where she works for a long time, creates a new world of objects that derive from each other by making use of the inner perspective of experience. Utilizing narrative elements, Özge Yağcı is nourished by the sensory connections of the interior while performing her ceramic productions. Nalan Yırtmaç, brings together public problems in a playful way in her collages, based on urban dynamics.
“Hanging in Time” deals with some reflections reminding the limits of space in routine activities in daily life, by presenting subjective and creative signs. With this experimentation the exhibition focuses on the unusual and imaginary possibilities of spatial boundaries, dimensions and forms.
“Hanging in Time” is open between October 15 to December 18, 2021 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12:00 to 18:00.
