25.01-09.03 2019
Hayy Open Space hosting Yıldız Çintay Art Group with the exhibition “Kent Müellifleri / Authors of the City”.
Kent Müellifleri is a sequel to the exhibition series presented for the first time at Studio-X Istanbul on May 2018. The first exhibition focused on buildings that were part of Izmir’s urban memory for a time and is now numerously being shared on social media. In their exhibition, the group cherishes these references; they remember and depict the old Konak overpass and the palm and eucalyptus trees that spread throughout the Izmir landscape.
The overpass, once conjoined Kemeraltı and the Konak coastal road after its inauguration by Municipal İhsan Alyanak in 1977, was removed in 1993 under the municipality of Yüksel Çakmur; and is now in Menemen. The exhibition will share how the Konak Square area was lived and remembered, accompanied by sketches and notes on the overpass. The second part of the exhibition is composed by information and sketches for palm and eucalyptus; two tree species that ended up in Izmir for different reasons and spread out through the city. The exhibition, hosting other projects and publications from Izmir that also concentrate on social memory, will run through March 9, 2019.
