Hayy Open Space is happy to host ‘Resurgence in Fragments‘ in İzmir, exhibited at Depo İstanbul earlier. The exhibition curated by Sınır/sız (Ilhan Sayin, Şafak Şule Kemancı, Ozan Ünlükoç, Metin Akdemir), brings together the works of Okyanus Çağrı Çamcı, Üzüm Derin Solak, and Furkan Öztekin, can be viewed at Hayy Open Space from September 23 to November 4, 2023.
The independent activist and artist group Sınır/sız explores the question, “Can we reorganize the past by starting from our archives?” in this exhibition. ‘Resurgence in Fragments‘ aims to reexamine personal archives that shape our existence and empower us with a queer perspective. The texts in the exhibition booklet written by Berkant Çağlar, Seçil Epik, and Fisun Yalçınkaya.
In their works created for this exhibition, Okyanus Çağrı Çamcı, Üzüm Derin Solak, and Furkan Öztekin explore ways to open or ‘expose’ their archives, from family heirlooms entrusted to them to whistles, fans, and flags taken to Pride marches. ‘Resurgence in Fragments’ questions the potential transformation of these archives into survival tools and investigates the possibilities of writing one’s own history and queer methods.
Sınır/sız is an art collective in which all members come together with the experience they have from the LGBTI+ community organizations in Turkey, including Ilhan Sayin, Şafak Şule Kemancı, Ozan Ünlükoç, and Metin Akdemir. Following mixed exhibitions featuring queer feminist artists titled ‘Sınırsız’ (2018) and ‘Sınır/sız ALAN’ (2019), the Sınır/sız curated Şafak Şule Kemancı’s “All birds come to my garden” (2021) and Zeynep Gönen’s “Familiar/Weird” (2022) solo exhibitions.
