Typefaces were once fonts—static metal instances of the idea behind character representation. On display, however, the possibilities open to flexible, dynamic, and variable configurations. Following early examples by designers such as Wim Crouwel and Karl Gerstner, recent years have seen a new wave of experimentation under the name of generative typography, using computational tools to create typefaces and explore extreme customization possibilities.
Pixel Traps: Typefaces Programmed to Play presents a series of generative typeface systems within this framework. Each system demonstrates how typefaces can be programmed with different logic, creating letters that transform, adapt, and evolve based on input and algorithmic parameters.
Visitors to the exhibition are invited to play with the work, experimenting with and manipulating these typefaces through interactive installations. This playful engagement reveals how typography can transcend its static tradition, presenting a new political stance beyond sans and serif.
The exhibition will be open until February 25, on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
